The Mentality
It’s incredible to see everyone working again. January tends to be the month of recruiting in CA. A good time for new products.
Speaking of new products we are releasing Certifications. This is a way to be tested and trained on varying skills. There is one lesson up now on phreaking and the next one we are planning is on nmap.
Further to this we have our first batch coming out of the junior leadership course. For those interested, Cpt is the starting rank and it qualifies you to be a sub brigade C/O.
Trying to get work out of the people you are in charge of is difficult. I’ll be the first to admit. I appreciate everything that people do for the community and their brigades. We need more of that.
Ive been hearing some anti promotion debate though as of late. Oddly enough it isn’t coming from people who actually do the promoting. It’s the working rank.
There was a time when I was a 2Lt in CAU. I contributed a lot with articles and code. I eventually found myself in charge of projects and brigades. The old certs was one of them. I used to have the mentality that I didn’t want a promotion. However, looking back, I believe that it was bs. Lets face it. Good work deserves reward. As a minimum a pat on the back and a promotion work well. There is no reason to hold that back and i know the other C/O’s agree with me.
This mentality is negative and should not be accepted. Looking to ‘prove’ yourself is not the job of the workers but the job of the C/O’s. We recognize work and we promote based on our criteria.
Hearing that, along side with, “if doing all this gets me a rank, but if i do that it doesnt. It is unjust, especially because that is more honourable and supportive.”
Again i call BS. Get in there and contribute. I am sure you will find recognition either way you go about it. Do not allow one to trump the other. Especially if you haven’t contributed to “this” or “that” yet.
There are a lot of contributors on CA. Some in greater capacity than others. Those who are at a greater capacity, keep it up. We need you around. We need to get you promoted and into leadership positions. It does take work.
This is as well my last issue as CO of the CAZine. I will still be writing however I will be focusing more on Certs. Taking over for me is Cpt Avery13371. This issue has been mostly his doing. I am proud to say, we can look forward to more!
Anyways. That’s just my view for the month. Comments go below
