Leadership Part B

by: khris

Next on our list would be handling things like keeping volunteers motivated and active. This is a role that would very much in the retail industry be likened to an Assistant Manager. For this role it is key to have someone who has already developed an understanding of what is required by the base of the operation, and someone who is capable of doing the distribution job as well if needed. Not for fact of actually having to do the work, but to be able to help train new individuals. Also, it is important, especially in the volunteer setting for the leader and anyone who is in a position of authority to do the base work to establish a level of respect amongst the workers.

It is important to keep all of this in mind when selecting an Assistant, or an X/O in CyberArmy. This person should be able to assist you keep people active, and should also be able to do the job of the people below them if needed. With CyberArmy being a volunteer organization, it may mean that when the people below you has a productivity drop-off you be able to pick up the slack, and keep them motivated. Keeping that in mind it also helps to know the job of the people below you in the event a question is posed.

As a leader, filling this position should be done with great attention. It should be someone you trust to keep things running smoothly when you aren’t around to keep things on track. Along with being an X/O, it would be important to not only have the skill, but also be as personable as possible. In CyberArmy it is sometimes difficult to find someone who is both skilled and personable, but they are out there.

Most importantly when filling this role, they should be in a position where they are on track to eventually do what you are doing. The concept of being a leader is always training the people below you to move up, this is important because it not only makes thigns easier on you, but it re-enforces your foundation. Don’t be threatened if this individual accells or surpasses you, this means you have done a great job keeping them on track and motivated.
