Cyberarmy used to be a true hacker community people would get together and learn different things. That is why I started CAZine, with the approval and blessing of the upper people. The one goal I had in mind, and others, such as Captain Zerhash, have is to continue learning and teaching other people tasks and skills that many people refuse to teach. Sure you can find many things by experimenting and Googling. If you do this, maybe you might find something worth while. There are lots of books out there, but these books I feel intentionally misled people.

Now that we have some readers and soon more contributors, we will start showing more and more skills that can lead you down the right path. Hacking involves many things, people have different skills. Myself I know networking, zerhash and CAU fearless leader know programming like there is no tomorrow. Like last months issue, you need to find an area you feel comfortable with, something you find interesting, then work with that. Before we can truly start learning about hacking, we need to define what a hacker is. Yes, I know those involved with CA are well aware of what a hacker is, but there are many misconceptions. I ran into this while attending a Computer Ethics class for school.

Many people think that a hacker is anyone that commits a compute crime. That is thanks to the media. There is different types of computer “criminals” like crackers. It is hard to explain to someone that has been brainwashed by the media to see the difference.

A hacker is one who does things for the pursuit of knowledge, if you have read “The Hackers Manifesto” by The_Mentor. That explains it all. Crackers are the ones that just do things evil for the fun of destroying things. These crackers don’t normally care about learning how things are doing. A hacker will find a ’sploit and publish it, to help others and make a system better. A cracker would normally use this same ’sploit to steal info or destroy someones computer system.

Then there are script-kiddies. These are people that don’t really know what they are doing, they use tools that they do not understand to get into a computer. They normally don’t know anything at all about what they are doing and cause lots of damage. Script-kiddies are the worst ones. Hackers are known by hat colors. White, Grey, and Black, but what makes you be a different color hat is up to you. What you feel like you are doing. We aren’t trying to convert black hats to white hats, our goal is to convert script-kiddies to something else. Let them know how easy it truly is to learn what a system is doing. That nmap isn’t just used as a port scanner, but a way to check your own network and see if a computer has been compromised. There are a few tools we will talk about this month that are very easy to use, some will be explained in detail, others will be an intro, and soon more info about it will be done in detail.

We are open to your opinions. We ask you to send us your favorite tool, and how to use it. What is your swiss army knife? E-mail us and the best tools will be shown in future issues.
