What is your profession?
I am a full-time student at the moment due to start my final year at university this September and I study BA Psychology with Counselling Studies and Society. I also work as an Administration Assistant for a training and recruitment company who train people in Plant Operations and HGV/Forklift licenses. I clean on Tuesdays for the same company.
How long have you been with us?
I have been with CyberArmy since around 2002. I used to watch Gisterogue on CyberArmy over his shoulder then decided to join up myself.
What did you do for CA?
I started out as a trooper and worked with the #help channel on CAIRC helping all the mizo people (lol). Then I joined Morale and Motivation in the sub-brigade called Direct and Immediate Response Team which was charged with moderating disputes on CAIRC and the forums and generally keeping the atmosphere within CA “friendly”. Morale and Motivation was then disbanded and changed to Services and Support. I later became the C/O of User Support Service which was charged with helping new members to find their way around the website and IRC.
I was later added as a CyberArmy Feedback Representative which involved resolving any feedback submitted to the website. This position stayed with me for some time and at the same time I joined Human Resources which was a part of Services and Support brigade. I eventually moved up to be the X/O of this sub-brigade.
I then moved to CyberArmy University and worked as a proofreader/editor for zZine for a short while before joining the CyberArmy Privacy Commission. I started in this brigade by helping out. I then became the C/O of Contact Establishment which later became Privacy Affiliations in which I contacted external websites for affiliations with CA. I was the person who created the affiliation with Project Honeypot which is the banner you see on the site today (banner was designed by Gisterogue).
I soon became chief editor of Privacy Watch Releases which later was renamed to Privacy Publications. This went on for some time and eventually earned me the position of C/O of Privacy Commission.
During all this work, I was a member of the Open Leadership Forum and wrote articles about training, human interactions, digital interactions etc. for the CA Wiki and also created the Polling and Votes forum to make CA’s decisions somewhat easier that a huge discussion on the forums. I also had a seat on staff for a short while until I left CA. Finally, I was voted Member of the Month in issue #12 of zZine.
Why did you retire?
Basically there was a big hoo-har with a certain exec, an ultimatum and a lot of stress. I left and the members under me followed as a way of showing their loyalty to the brigade. I don’t want to go into it as it is old news and doesn’t need unearthing.
What have you been doing since leaving CA?
I have been working on the Privacy Commission website at http://www.privacycom.org and also managing my own jewellery website at http://www.rosejewel.com These are my two biggest projects at the moment and have been keeping me busy.
Worst times?
Hmm, there have been a few. I think mainly not being accepted as a female by a certain group of members but I think they have grown up now. Apart from that, the worst times have been accusations of cheating on the various hacking challenges. What has been the biggest thing to get in the way of your success? The lack of manpower to help complete projects. Not many people want to work voluntarily on something which is very similar to being at college or university and can’t find the time to put into things such as writing articles etc.
What has been the biggest thing to help?
Patience and persistence. Also, the support from the other members in the brigades, if we weren’t all like a family we wouldn’t have gotten things done to be honest. From a skills point of view, CA has helped my experience with computers and knowledge about computer security and social interactions which helped a lot with my studies and work.
Where would you like to be right now in the CA?
I wouldn’t mind being back on staff helping out like I did before, but until things have improved with activity and member contribution/visible changes I think I will stay sat back and watching.
What are your future goals?
One of my future goals has been achieved, and that is being published in a book about Social Engineering. “Hacking the Human: Social Engineering Techniques and Security Countermeasures” by Ian Mann. I contributed towards the Psychological aspects of this book.
Other future goals…hmm, I think I would like to be in a reliable job which I can hold for a few years. I don’t mind admin work, but if I could be some form of consultant I would be happy.
This is the best zine EVER!! lol
